1 Kg of tea Guwahati tea auction centre fetched Rs 39,001 in pan India Auction system



GUWAHATI: A new record was made when a Kg of tea in Guwahati tea auction center (GTAC) fetched Rs. 39001 in pan India Auction system. 

 GTAC has claimed that this is highest ever auction price fetched in any auction center across the world. 

 On Tuesday in Guwahati Tea Auction Centre’s sale number 30 when a line of Manohari Gold Tea fetched Rs 39001. The tea was sold by Contemporary Brokers and purchased by Saurabh Tea Traders of Guwahati for their upcountry buyers at Delhi and Ahmadabad. 

Manohari Tea Estate is located in Dibrugarh in Upper Assam. The tea was of orthodox variety. Even Assam government has hailed the record-breaking in GTAC. 

The owner of Manohari Tea Estate, Rajan Lohia said,”With inherent quality and special clones of tea bushes and hand plucking of very delicate buds, a lot of efforts and dedication is put behind by the tea estate for manufacturing such a world-class tea”. 

He added this achievement will help regain the lost glory of the entire Tea Industry. “Tea lovers are ready to pay any price for such innovative and quality tea.” 

 The Owner of Saurabh Tea Traders, M. L Maheshwari said "Our customers are always looking for best quality specialty teas. Earlier we had purchased another line of Donyi Plo Tea Estate Specialty tea at Rs. 18801”. 

The secretary of Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association, Dinesh Bihani said that "This is a proud moment for Guwahati tea auction center. The Auction center has evolved as a platform where specialty tea makes new records and more demands are seen across India. This will encourage other quality tea producers to make good quality specialty tea and send it to GTAC which is now a hub for specialty tea.”

Indian tea industry records highest ever production, export in FY18

Indian tea industry has recorded the highest ever production as well as exports in FY18. The total tea production was 1325.05 million kgs, an increase of 74.56 million kgs as compared to 2016-17. In percentage terms, the increase is around 6%.  Similarly, the total quantity of tea exported during the financial year 2017-18 stood at 256.57 million kgs, while the foreign exchange realized from exports of Indian tea was $ 785.92 million.  The quantity of tea exports increased by 12.7  to 28.94 million kgs during 2017-18 as compared to the corresponding period last year, while the revenue earned from exports saw a rise of $ 95.19 million (13.78%).   In rupee terms, the total value of the exports was pegged at Rs. 5064.88 crores during 2017-18.
